Dr Edward Bertram
Dr Edward Bertram is Head of Scientific Programs at
the Australian Phenomics Facility and Group Leader, Anti-Viral T cell
costimulation and Memory Group in the Immunogenomics Laboratory at The
John Curtin School of Medical Research. He completed his PhD at the University
of Adelaide in 1997 and developed a research career at the University
of Toronto studying the role of costimulatory cell surface molecules on
CD8 T cells in the context of anti-viral immunity. During this time he
was a member of CANVAC- Canadian Network for Vaccines and immunotherapeutics.
His current research interests include regulation of CD8+ T cell immune
responses using influenza virus as a model pathogen and the role that
costimulatory molecules such as LIGHT:HVEM and 4-1BBL:4-1BB, as well signals
transduced from costimulatory molecules via Carma-1 influence the differentiation
of CD8 + T cells. He is also using a unique collection of mouse pedigrees
at the Australian Phenomics Facility, bearing chemically induced single
base DNA changes across the genome have been undergoing a systematic screen
to identify pedigrees with novel genes that regulate the development of
CD8 T cell memory and recall responses to influenza virus. |
